Smart and TNT subscribers in the Philippines can now try AI.Smart, a browser-based workspace from Smart Communications and Amihan, powered by Avtica. It offers access to models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Amazon and Thinking Machines through one interface, with prepaid-style credit packs starting at ₱49 for seven days. The most useful way to view it is as a low-cost way to test several AI-assisted tasks. It is not three full subscriptions to ChatGPT Plus, Google AI Pro and Claude Pro bundled together. Smart and Amihan’s launch announcement describes model routing and the credit packs.
What is AI.Smart, and how does it work?
The partners describe AI.Smart as a single workspace for asking questions about uploaded files, drafting and summarizing documents, building spreadsheets and presentations, generating images and analyzing data. It supports English, Filipino and Taglish. Instead of asking the user to buy each provider’s consumer plan, the workspace selects an underlying model for a task and spends from a shared credit pack. Smart says it runs in a dedicated AWS environment with inference through Amazon Bedrock. These are descriptions of the service by its operators, not an independent performance test. The launch release gives four packs:
| Pack | Announced price | Validity | What to check before buying |
|---|---|---|---|
| Solo | ₱49 | 7 days | How many credits it includes and how your usual tasks consume them |
| Flex | ₱99 | 14 days | Whether unused credits expire or carry over under current terms |
| Pro | ₱149 | 30 days | Sharing controls, member access and credit allocation |
| Max | ₱499 | 30 days | Total credit pool, fair-use rules and team management |
The release says Pro and Max are shareable with a team or family, but it does not state a member limit for either pack. Confirm the current member limit and credit amount at checkout; the announcement does not show a clear conversion from credits to prompts, images, files or model tokens. Payment through a Smart or TNT account, including an SMS one-time PIN, is a major convenience for people who do not want a foreign-currency card subscription. The service is listed at ai.smart and in the LiveSmart app. The announcement says LiveSmart app users may get a chance to claim free AI.Smart access; that is a promotion, not a guaranteed entitlement, and the announcement does not fix its length, so check the promo terms in the app.
Who benefits most?
Students and first-time users can use a short pack to practice explaining a topic, making flashcards or comparing sources. They should verify facts against textbooks and primary references and follow school rules on AI assistance.
Freelancers can turn their own project brief into an outline, proposal or presentation draft, then edit it for the client. A shared platform may be handy if work alternates between writing, tables and images, but confirm whether exports, formats and quality meet the client’s needs.
Small teams can test one approved workflow—such as summarizing internal, non-sensitive meeting notes or drafting public FAQs—before paying for separate vendor seats. Sharing a credit pool is not the same as an enterprise governance plan: review permissions, logs, deletion and client contracts first. Our guide to using ChatGPT and other AI tools at work in the Philippines covers a basic workplace AI policy.
Occasional users may find ₱49 for a week attractive when they need a burst of work rather than a recurring monthly consumer subscription. Heavy daily users must calculate the actual cost of their mix of tasks; a low entry price alone does not prove a lower cost per useful result.
How does it compare with direct ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude subscriptions?
| Question | AI.Smart | Direct vendor subscription |
|---|---|---|
| Access and payment | One Smart/TNT-linked workspace; local credit packs and mobile-account payment | Separate account and plan with the provider; local price and payment options vary |
| Choice of model | Service describes automatic routing among underlying models; exact model version may not be apparent | Provider’s own model and features, subject to that plan’s model picker and limits |
| Usage | Credits are consumed across different tasks; ask for the live rate card | Subscription usage caps and feature limits set by each provider |
| Product features | AI.Smart’s own document, presentation, image and analysis workflows | Native app-specific tools, integrations, storage, memory or coding features depend on plan |
| Data relationship | Smart/Amihan/Avtica workspace and its vendor chain; read its current notices and contract | Direct relationship with the chosen provider and that account’s data controls |
| Best fit | Exploring several models and occasional mixed tasks on a small local budget | Frequent use of one provider’s native app, specific features or a managed business plan |
OpenAI says ChatGPT Plus is $20 monthly, with changing model and tool limits; API usage is separate. Anthropic lists Claude Pro at $20 monthly in the US, with regional prices and usage limits, and its API is separate. Google’s Philippine Google AI plans page describes Gemini access together with Google storage and other benefits, which differ by plan. These direct plans buy the provider’s own product experience. AI.Smart provides access through a third-party workspace; a model’s name on the roster does not grant the native paid app’s full tools, limits or account benefits. Do not add the three vendor list prices and claim an equivalent saving without comparing actual work and credits.
What limits should users test?
- Credit economics: Run five representative tasks—short question, long PDF summary, spreadsheet, image and presentation. Note the credits spent and whether retries also cost credits. Calculate cost per accepted result, not cost per prompt.
- Model transparency: Ask which provider and model version produced an answer, and whether you can select it or only accept automatic routing. The launch material does not establish exact parity with the latest direct-app models.
- Files and outputs: Check upload size and type limits, export formats, citation links, image resolution and whether a document remains editable. Do not assume a marketing example guarantees every file workflow.
- Continuity and support: Test whether chats and files persist between sessions, whether you can export them and what happens when credits or validity expire. Check cancellation, refunds and support procedures.
- Team controls: Before sharing a pack, see whether members can view one another’s prompts or files, whether each has a separate workspace, and who can set spending limits.
- Accuracy and language: Try actual Taglish or Filipino prompts and check names, figures and citations. For legal, medical or financial matters, use the output as a starting point for verification, not a decision.
What about privacy and uploaded files?
Smart and Amihan say uploads remain private to the subscriber’s workspace, are not used to train AI models, and are encrypted. The release also says model providers do not retain subscriber data. Those are operator claims. They do not, by themselves, disclose every log, backup, deletion interval, access role or subcontractor arrangement. Users and businesses should read the live privacy notice and ask where files and prompts are stored, who can access them, how deletion works and what happens under a shared pack. For Philippine organizations, the Data Privacy Act and the National Privacy Commission’s AI guidance remain relevant when personal data is processed. A workplace should not upload customer lists, HR files, medical records, unpublished contracts or credentials without an approved purpose, lawful processing basis, vendor review and appropriate safeguards. A claim that data is not used for training does not resolve all confidentiality and security questions. This is a practical compliance check, not a finding that AI.Smart violates privacy law.
How to get value from the first ₱49 pack
Start with one week and a small set of low-risk tasks: a public-source research outline, a draft email from your own notes, a sample budget with invented figures, or a presentation plan. Keep a simple log: task, credits before and after, output quality, corrections needed and time saved. For a factual answer, open the cited source; for an image or document, inspect the actual export. At the end of the week, compare the usable results with free direct apps and the paid plan you would otherwise buy.
Choose AI.Smart if the local payment method, short validity and mixed-model workspace solve your actual problem at an acceptable per-result cost. Choose a direct subscription if a specific vendor’s native features, higher usage, integrations or predictable governance matter more. It is reasonable to use free direct tiers alongside a small AI.Smart pack while learning what you truly use.
If something goes wrong: where to complain
Wrong charge, missing credits or a pack that did not activate: screenshot the pack purchase, the SMS one-time PIN confirmation, your remaining credits and the date. Report it first through Smart’s own support channels (the LiveSmart app or Smart customer care) and keep the ticket number. Telco billing and load disputes fall under the telecommunications regulator, the National Telecommunications Commission, rather than DTI, whose consumer jurisdiction excludes sectors assigned to specialized agencies. DTI jurisdiction guidance
Privacy concern about uploaded files or prompts: write to the service’s data protection officer, describe the problem and what you want done (for example, access to or deletion of your data). If it is not addressed, you may complain to the National Privacy Commission, but the NPC requires that you first informed the respondent in writing and gave it 15 calendar days to act; attach proof of that notice, your evidence and a verified complaint. NPC complaint mechanics
Organizations: if an employee uploaded customer or staff personal data to any AI tool without authorization, treat it as a possible security incident under your privacy management program. See what to do when customer data is uploaded to an AI tool.
